Overview

This 3-day seminar is intended for experienced health care practitioners, social workers, psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists who work with adults struggling with a variety of issues, whether on short term or long term basis. This is an introductory course for those who want to incorporate the use of imagery and expressive therapies in their practise.

Another Way of Knowing: Using the Healing Power of Holistic Expressive Play Therapy to Help Adults Meet the Challenges in Their Lives

All content is based on Holistic Expressive Play Therapy, an integrative approach that takes into consideration the physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs of clients in therapy. This seminar will explore the many ways of helping our clients connect to their innate wisdom through the use of imagery and a variety of expressive therapies (art, sand play, storytelling, writing, sewing, etc...) to not only meet the challenges in their lives but learn and grow from them.

Learning Objectives and Content:

• Theoretical principles of Holistic Expressive Play Therapy as adapted to working with adults.

• The major components of the therapeutic methods used in a psychotherapy/counselling session.

• The role of imagery and the symbolic language in the healing process.

• Creating a milieu that enhances and supports the healing process.

• Expressive therapies available to complement and enhance verbal counselling with adults: art, sand play,
assemblage, dollhouse and family of origin, writing, storytelling, music, sewing and felting,
   photography, music, etc.

• Using the healing power of imagery and expressive therapies for the purpose of strengthening.

• Using imagery and expressive therapies to explore difficult issues that words cannot reach.

In the afternoons, participants will both experience and facilitate the image making process through various expressive therapies as related to the morning lecture material.

Live demonstrations will be used when appropriate.

Further training on the use of Holistic Expressive Play Therapy with adults suffering from a variety of issues that would include the opportunity for consultation and mentorship can also be arranged, upon participants request.

Fee includes use of materials. Meals and accommodations are not provided.

Please do not wear any scented products as the playroom is a scent free zone in consideration for those suffering from environmental allergies.
