Animal Assisted Therapy
The Healing Power of Animals
Marie José’s animal companions have been an integral part of her therapy sessions since 1980, and they have had a profound impact and healing influence on many people of all ages.
Marie José’s current co-therapists—her standard poodles Gisèle and Rosalie—are invited into therapy sessions when appropriate and only when the client is comfortable with dogs. They have been specially trained since they were puppies to provide comforting reassurance during therapy.
Gisèle and Rosalie
Meet
Gisèle and Rosalie are a source of soothing, healing touch as they sit close by, intuitively finding just the right distance for each person’s comfort level. Whether it is letting the client know they are happy to see them, or barking at outside noises, which helps the client feel safe and protected, Gisèle and Rosalie offer a comforting presence.
Since Marie José introduced her animal companions into her therapy sessions, it has become a widely accepted approach.
If a client is afraid or uncomfortable with dogs, the co-therapists do not join the session. The welfare of the dogs is always a priority. If a situation is too stressful for the animals, they are removed to a safe place.
In loving memory of past co-therapists that have passed over the rainbow bridge: Monseigneur, Dauphine, Bijou, Yannick, Fleur, and Dauphin.
