Counselling for Adults
Counselling for Adults
If you are experiencing challenges related to abuse, injury or illness, grief or loss, life transitions, divorce, workplace stress or trauma of any kind, Expressive Therapy® can help you begin to heal.
At the Centre for Expressive Therapy, Marie José Dhaese offers short-term counselling and long-term psychotherapy for adults dealing with any of the above issues, which can often lead to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, fears or sleeping problems. Considering your most pressing needs and concerns, Marie-José works with you to determine the therapeutic approach that suits you best.
The Therapy Process
The first step is to help you feel comfortable before beginning to talk about what is on your mind. Sessions take place in a soothing, relaxing and nurturing environment that holds many possibilities for self-expression and exploration. Marie José’s co-therapists, Dauphin and Gisele, might lay close by during your session if you are comfortable with Animal Assisted Therapy.
At your pace and in your own unique way, you are encouraged to share whatever may have brought you to therapy, thus beginning to explore your thoughts and feelings. Gradually, you will shed new light on the obstacles you have come across as you engage in a conversation that encourages self-reflection, leads to new perspectives and opens new possibilities.
Most adults primarily use verbal counselling, but if you encounter difficult issues that words cannot reach, Marie José may draw on other forms of expressive therapy. You may be guided to scan your body, use visualizations, guided imagery, drawing, collage or sand play. The images you create will be reflected upon to find practical solutions.
Session Frequency
The frequency and length of therapy sessions depends on your needs and situation. Regular sessions are recommended at the beginning of the therapy process. You are encouraged to find the rhythm that suits you best and can be comfortably maintained.
The duration of therapy varies for each person and depends on where you are in your journey, your stage of life and the specific nature of the issues and obstacles you are experiencing.
Counselling can be conducted in French or English, with long-distance sessions, follow-ups and ongoing support available as needed.
